Founder, Social Maata

Roli Gaur Vashisht

Before “content strategy” and “personal branding” were buzzwords, Roli Gaur Vashisht was already building communities, experimenting with digital platforms and creating content that resonated with real people.

A Delhi native, Roli’s creative journey began early as a scholar badge holder, band leader, Kathak dancer, harmonium and flute player and teen editor of the local newspaper Samvada. She immersed herself in multiple forms of creative expression, from poetry and storytelling to visual arts and music, laying the foundation for her natural storytelling ability.

From designing fashion collections at NIFT Mumbai to experimenting with social media campaigns for early fashion labels, Roli quickly realised the power of visibility and strategic communication in building brands and connecting with audiences.

Over the years, Roli launched multiple ventures:

Preeyum:
A premium clothing brand for young adults launched at a time when online selling in India was still at a very early stage. The venture did not scale the way she had hoped, but it became one of her most important business lessons. It taught her that a good product is not enough. Market timing, positioning, customer behaviour and scalability matter just as much.

Crazy Indian Wedding:
What began as a personal wedding diary became one of India’s loved wedding blogs, built on honest writing, relatable storytelling and genuine recommendations. The platform built a strong online community and was featured by Femina Brides, Cosmopolitan and Hindustan Times Brunch.

Roli Gaur Vashisht, Fashion Label:
Her namesake fashion label was one of her earliest social-media-first businesses. Long before Instagram shopping and creator-led brands became common, she sold contemporary sarees through a Facebook page. The brand built visibility through social media, sold out exhibitions and received international orders, proving early on that digital platforms could help a small independent label become a real business.

RGV Love:
India’s first family and mommy YouTube channel, RGV Love crossed 21M+ views and built a deeply engaged parenting community. Through content around family life, motherhood, baby-led weaning, child development and conscious parenting, Roli understood how deeply people connect with content that feels honest, useful and human. Her family was also featured by Netflix during the COVID lockdown for their authentic family content.

Diwali Ka Dwarpal:
Roli authored Diwali Ka Dwarpal, a children’s book created to reconnect children with Indian festivals and traditions in a warm and engaging way. The book launch was supported through a planned social media campaign, sold 100 copies on the first day, crashed its Amazon listing and was publicly recommended by Sameera Reddy. Roli was also invited to speak at online book events around storytelling, festivals and children.

These experiences taught her:

  • Audience psychology drives engagement.
    Understanding how people think, feel and respond is the foundation of content that connects.

  • Visibility alone does not guarantee results.
    Being seen is only effective when paired with strong messaging, positioning and purpose.

  • Strategy and positioning are as important as content quality.
    Even the most creative content underperforms without a clear plan and brand direction.

  • Consistency compounds impact.
    Posting with intent and aligning every piece of content with a bigger brand narrative builds visibility and trust over time.

  • Community and trust are long term assets.
    Engagement is most meaningful when it builds relationships, credibility and authority.

Every chapter of Roli’s journey, from failed ventures to viral communities, from fashion to YouTube, from storytelling to entrepreneurship, strengthened one belief: visibility works best when it is built on understanding people.

That belief became the foundation of Social Maata.

How Social Maata Was Born?

Through her YouTube journey, online communities and years of creating content, Roli had already built trust with women, founders and entrepreneurs who followed her work.

Many of them began reaching out for help with their own social media. They were good at what they did, but struggled to translate that expertise into clear, consistent and confident content.

Some needed help with what to post. Some needed better positioning. Some needed to understand their audience. Others simply needed the confidence to show up online.

Roli started helping them informally with content ideas, profile improvements, storytelling, positioning and social media strategy. Soon, those conversations became coaching calls, consulting assignments and then full social media management for brands.

What started as people trusting her experience gradually became Social Maata, officially launched in September 2023 as a full service, psychology led social media agency in Delhi, India.
